about me

Hi, I’m Katie.

I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in the San Francisco East Bay (Dublin, CA). I earned my B.A. in Psychology from San Francisco State University and hold a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University.

I love being a therapist. It is the greatest privilege of my life thus far. When I see a client break free from limiting beliefs, release an album, start a business, advocate for themselves, become a mother, find the courage to be who they really are… it makes me so happy! When I am with a client, I have this feeling in the depth of my soul that says, “This is what you were made to do.”

Here are some things that I’m known for:

  • Being a cheerleader and a truth speaker. I believe in the fullness of who you are and the freedom that you can experience. I’ll help you remove all the crap that’s keeping you limited so you can live a fulfilling life.

  • Staying creative and realistic. I use humor, pop culture references, and relaxed language to transition in and out of the heavy stuff. We may also get creative with mood boards, art, dance, and song. This helps you dig deeper while also providing the bandwidth to practice what you’ve learned in therapy in your everyday life.

  • I value you, your time, and your unique gifts. During our session hour, your experience is the most important thing to me. I know that when I am giving you my best, you can develop the tools to be your best.

  • Listening AND taking action. While therapy provides a place for you to feel heard, you can probably get that with your friends. Being a good listener is not the only strategy in my playbook. The heart of my work is giving you the tools and skills to acquire deep, life-changing healing.

Does this jive with you? You’re in the right place then.

“Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.”

be heard

When I was in my 20’s, strangers would regularly share very personal things with me. One time the cashier at Target cried when I asked her how her day was going. A sobbing woman in a bar once grabbed me to tell me her complete life story. My friends joke about how they never worry when I disappear because I’m probably in the ladies’ room with someone who needed to talk.

Most of the time, I would just listen. I also had a knack for helping these strangers see what they couldn’t see for themselves – their strengths and unique gifts. They needed acceptance. They wanted permission to throw out harmful habits and beliefs. They craved support not colored by obligations or previous interactions.

They wanted to be heard.

Everyone deserves to be heard. Every day. Everywhere. How one is ”seen” by others directly affects one’s mental health.

Now I’m a professional listener! Well, therapy is a lot more than just listening. You can read about that HERE.

But, seriously, I needed those strangers.

They entered my life during a time of reflection and transition. I had been living my life as an over-functioning (#sleepisforlosers), rise and grind gal with a smile that masked how unhappy I was.

Through these experiences, I discovered my unique gifts. I learned about what I’m capable of. I found a way to make a positive contribution to the world.

If you’re ready to take charge of your life, let’s talk.
