therapy for trauma

I work with women and young adults who are suffering from the damaging effects of adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

Early life experiences and traumatic events can influence the emotional and physical path we take as adults. A shattered sense of security can lead to chronic stress, health problems, anxiety, and feeling disconnected from yourself, your spiritual life, and others.

If this is true for you, you probably learned to mask your fear, anger, and sadness. Perhaps you tried to cope by talking with a friend, reading self-help books, exercising more, stuffing your feelings, or maybe even going to therapy. These strategies don’t create positive lasting change if they don’t get to the root of the problem. It’s like tearing off a weed but not removing the roots so the weed just keeps growing back.

Let’s try something different!

My therapy approach isn’t another short-term solution. I use EMDR and other trauma approaches to reveal the source of your pain and clean out the faulty root system so you can live a happy and healthy life, now and in the future.

You Can Heal

All of our lives are filled with ups and downs, triumphs and tragedy, success and stress. The question is not whether we will experience difficulty, challenge, or trauma; it is what we will do in response to such events and experiences.

While the dominant narrative suggests that trauma diminishes our prospects for a great life, I know differently. I believe that people can grow in the aftermath of trauma, and live fulfilling and happy lives.

EMDR Therapy

You may have heard of EMDR therapy. It stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. It is an empirically supported (well-researched), and structured model of therapy that involves working with memories, body sensations, core-self beliefs, and emotions to eliminate the residential “guck” of painful past experiences.

EMDR can accelerate therapy by resolving the impact of your past traumas and allowing you to live more fully. EMDR successfully treats PTSD and many other mental health problems like anxiety, panic, addiction, pain, phobias, grief, and more.

If you’re interested in EMDR, I recommend meeting for one or more sessions to understand the source and nature of the issue before deciding to use EMDR as a treatment. During those sessions, I’ll provide more information on EMDR, answer questions, and explain the process. Then, we will decide mutually if EMDR is the right approach to address the specific problems that led you to treatment.
