about therapy

Even though I have general expertise as a therapist, there are populations and presenting problems that I feel better equipped to treat. I have developed a great depth of knowledge, experience, and competence in the specific areas below.

01. Therapy for Women

Therapy for (mostly) put-together women struggling with stress, anxiety, and burnout caused by perfectionism and over-functioning.

02. Therapy for Young Adults

Therapy for older teens and young adults dealing with the stress of school, career, responsibilities, and adulthood.

03. Therapy for Trauma

Therapy for women and young adults plagued by upsetting memories, thoughts, and feelings related to trauma.

Special Offerings

Incorporating Faith in Therapy

Though I have experience working with clients from different backgrounds, my experience offers a unique understanding for those within the Christian community. I am happy to have faith to be a part of our work together. However, please note that my training is as a Marriage and Family Therapist, not as a pastor or theologian. So when it comes to incorporating faith into our sessions, I will follow your lead. This means that I come with no agenda. We can talk more about how you would, or would not, like faith to be a part of our sessions when we meet for the first time!

In-Person & Online Video Sessions

Online therapy is a convenient option for accommodating work and family schedules, long commutes, or those outside the Bay Area.

I use a HIPPA compliant video platform, Clocktree, for online sessions. This keeps our conversations secure and confidential. You’re welcome to use video sessions as our primary way of meeting or on an as-needed basis.

Licensing laws require that I can only work with clients who reside in California.

My Therapy Approaches

  • EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is known for getting to the source of your pain and suffering so you can heal the wounds of trauma, PTSD, and negative early life experiences. You’ll replace thoughts and feelings that are no longer useful with positive thoughts and feelings that encourage healthier behavior. Ultimately, you’ll learn to handle stressful situations yourself.

  • Art Therapy

Art therapy is not about being an artist. Art therapy is talk therapy combined with visual exercises that are designed to bring awareness and insight to your life experiences. It promotes concentration, playfulness, independence, confidence, emotion regulation, self-awareness, and so much more.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you become aware of the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that cause vicious cycles and prevent you from feeling better. You’ll develop new ways of thinking and behaving that reduce your stress and help you live a happier life.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy helps you gain insight into your life and present-day problems. We evaluate patterns you have developed over time by exploring emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and early-life experiences. As vulnerable feelings are revealed and processed, defense mechanisms (like denial, repression, or rationalization) reduce or resolve. The goal is not only to alleviate symptoms but to help you lead a healthier life.

  • Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach that looks at the connection between your mind and body for holistic healing. Somatic therapy helps you to release tension, anger, frustration, and other emotions that reside in your body. The goal is to free you from the stress and pain that is preventing you from fully engaging in your life.

  • Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you identify and heal the painful emotions that try to control and protect you from the pain of your “wounded parts.” These parts are often in conflict with each other and with the confident, compassionate, whole person that is at the core of you (Self). With IFS, you’ll restore mental balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create discord among the wounded parts and the Self.

Fees

My standard session fee is $150.00 for a 50-minute individual session. If we decide that you need a longer session, the fee will be prorated.

Insurance

I am not contracted with insurance companies and do not bill them. I can provide receipts that you submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Check with your insurance provider to see if you qualify.

Cancellations

I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. All sessions will need to be canceled 48 hours in advance or you will be charged the full session fee.

Session Frequency

Clients who commit to weekly sessions achieve their goals faster than clients who come in irregularly. I want you to have the best outcome, so my preference is to meet weekly at first. As you progress towards your goals, we can adjust the frequency to match your need.

Length of Treatment

The length of time we’ll spend working together to achieve your goals depends on factors specific to you. In our first session, we’ll come up with a plan together that will give you an idea of how long to expect. You should know that I aim to help you graduate from therapy.

Finishing Up

If we are both doing our parts, graduation will come! Along the way, we’ll check in on progress, see what areas we can improve, celebrate victories and achieve goals. All these will be signs that you’re ready to graduate from this step in your journey. Since life has many ups and downs, therapy can also be a valuable tool after graduation if you want to review or build on your skills.
